Throw Back Television!

Hey everyone! :)

Yes, I am aware that I am a full day late in posting something up for you, but I didn’t realize how many things I was going to have to sort through for todays blog post! I decided at about 9:00 pm that I wanted to do a throwback Thursday post about all the television shows that I miss from when I was growing up. I didn’t realize just how many I missed and which ones I wish were still up and running. I made a list of about a million, okay so maybe that is a slight exaggeration but it felt like it, so I needed to do some narrowing down! So I’ve decided to do the top 12“retro” shows that I miss from when I was growing up and would love to see some kind of reunion or at least re-airing in no particular order.

1. Lizzie McGuire
I can still remember watching this show after school all the time! I would get home and watch Lizzie McGuire as much as possible because I loved the life lessons that I would get from it. It is probably the first tv show that I think I cried over the ending and found my first OTP (one true pair) on. I think the advice that I got from Lizzie’s mom is some of the best that I’ve ever gotten in my life. That isn’t the kind of thing that you can really say about some shows today is it?

2. Even Stevens
This show reminded me a lot of the interaction about my little brother and I, especially looking back on it now. Who didn’t love those shows with the crazy antics of a younger brother creating havoc in a family and causing his older siblings to pull their hair out. The movie that they did is probably one of my favorite out there, second only to the Lizzie McGuire one of course, because of the perfect combination of real life, a family conquering everything together and just outstanding comedy.

3. That’s So Raven
Okay now find me one person who has never seen this show! It was a classic story that just made you wish that you could see into the future sometimes. I know I always liked to pretend that I could see things that would happen, but it was all just a fantasy. I found a lot of self-confidence in this show from the way that the characters just stood up for themselves and their friends no matter what happened. I think it truly helped me to become the person that  am today, however indirectly.

4. Art Attack
I loved watching and trying to do the art work on this show! I am one of THE most un-artistic people on the planet though so needless to say that my art was never close to the work done on there. Recently, my friends and I did our own big art attack piece and it was pretty amazing to do. I can still remember getting confused about what PVA paste was because we didn’t have it in Canada and complaining about why we couldn’t get it at the store to properly do the crafts.

5. Zooboomafoo
The Kratt brothers had the coolest job when I was growing up. To be able to see all those animals and to just have the kind of life that they did always made me super duper excited to watch! I loved anything to do with animals and the funny stories and things that happened, all while teaching you about stuff, was amazing. I remember sitting there and being so addicted to the show—enough that I learned all the words.

6.  Zoom
I wanted to be on this show so so so much! You have no idea how many times I tried to write into the show to see if I could be a part of it, but of course that never happened. I just loved the amount of fun that the kids had, all the cool things they learned to do and make. Heck, it felt like recess when watching them run around and play games. It was all because of Zoom that I learned to purify water and to say the alphabet backwards.

7. Boy Meets World
I am so excited that this show is coming back with a new series! It was one of my favourite shows on the planet and I will say that I cried my heart out when that show finally ended. The way that it grew up with the audience and truly tried to make sure that it covered all kinds of relevant topics made it a memorable show. You honestly watched and grew up with Cory and Topenga, loved getting advice from Mr. Feeney and laughed so much whenever Eric did something stupid or crazy. I miss those kind of shows that you could just get into after only a few seconds.

8. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
The theme song to this show is still alive and going strong today. Last year for the school talent show my graduating class all performed this song on stage because we all grew up with it. We all still watch it of course when they replay it on television and still find it as funny and deep as we did back then. If anything, it has just gotten better with age because we truly understand a lot more then we ever did in the past. It was just so funny to see the sheer contrast between Will and the rest of the family and I think that is what made it great. That family comes in all shapes and sizes.

9. The Amanda Show
So long before Amanda Bynes went crazy on twitter and was in jail, she was the fun and loving girl from the Amanda show.  It was one of the first “stand-up, sketch” shows that I can remember watching (other then All That) and truly connecting with. I mean honestly, it was the first look at a real “fangirl” and the lengths that people went through for famous people. We all remember that don’t we? When Amanda played a character that was completely obsessed with herself? Good times, good times.

10. Saved by the Bell
A typical high school show that is still as relevant today as it was back then. I find myself thinking that about a lot of shows really. I just remember wanting to act like Jessie but to dress like Kelly because they were my two favourite characters. I mean, Lisa was amazing but I just never found myself able to connect with her character because I was the kind of kid that would eat dirt and didn’t like to act girly and up with the fashion trends. If you saw what I wore as a child, it would make a lot of you cry.

11. Who’s Line Is It Anyway
The hilarity  of the skits on this show was enough to make me laugh for years and years, and probably for more to come! I still can’t believe how many times I’ve looked this show up on Youtube to watch some clips after a bad day and find myself laughing at it for hours on end. Truth be told a lot of the jokes would go over my head as a kid as it was meant to, but watching it back now makes it even more amazing. I think a lot of shows were like that, meant to be okay for children but aimed to the parents that were watching as well.

12.  Rugrats
I had to throw in one of my favourite cartoons of all time! No, I don’t mean the new one where they have all grown up and are moody teenagers, but the one where Tommy Pickles is hiding things in his diaper to break out of their play pen and poor Chucky is scared of his own shadow. I wanted to become a babysitter and deal with kids because this show seemed like an accurate look into the lives of all the babies around the world. They could talk to one another and were super smart amongst each other but adults were just not concerned enough to pay proper attention. I loved that kind of thing and always tried to listen super hard when I was around young kids to see if I could pick up on any kind of secret plans.

Okay guys so that is everything! I made it a little bit shorter then I would have liked because of my wrist, but longer then a normal post because I missed Thursday and don’t want to push my wrist too much today by trying to write two! If you would like to see a part two of this list, let me know!  I have a ton of other shows I had to cut out and that I love to this day! Are there any that you love a lot?

Cheers! x
